Welcome to TREC Ireland
TREC is a sport intended to test the skills of a horse and rider in planning and executing a long distance ride in unfamiliar countryside. TREC stands for Tourist Related Equestrian Competitions (or 'Technique de Randonnee Equestre de Competition' as per its French origin). TREC was designed to test the competency of professional trekking guides, but proved so popular that it soon expanded to include equestrian tourists being guided by these professionals.
Our Mission Statement
As the national body for the sport, the mission of Tourism Related Equestrian Competitions Ireland Clg is to provide a structured, safe, and welcoming environment for riders to master the multi-phase discipline of TREC. We strive to advance equestrian skills, promote high standards of horse welfare, and collaborate with national and international bodies—including Horse Sport Ireland and FITE—to preserve and expand trail riding access for leisure and competitive riders alike.
